A Turkish law practice for international clients

International clients often need more than a literal translation of Turkish documents. They need to understand the legal effect of those documents, the procedure that applies and the decisions that must be taken at each stage.

A dispute or transaction involving Turkey may also have consequences in another country. A divorce can affect property or civil-status records. An inheritance may involve heirs and assets in several jurisdictions. A commercial dispute may require coordination between a foreign contract, Turkish procedural law and enforcement against assets located in Turkey.

Blay’s Office approaches these matters by identifying the client’s objective, reviewing the available documents and determining which issues must be addressed under Turkish law. Where another jurisdiction is involved, we can coordinate with the client’s foreign counsel so that the legal strategy remains consistent.

Lawyer Kubilay KILIC

Kubilay KILIC, Attorney at Law, is officially registered on the roster of French-speaking lawyers recognized by the French Consulate General in Istanbul. Mr. KILIC offers legal services in English, French, and Turkish.

Our founder: Kubilay KILIC

Kubilay KILIC is the founder of Blay’s Office and a lawyer admitted to practise in Turkey through his registration with the Istanbul Bar Association.

He completed his undergraduate law degree and a Master’s degree in International Law at the University of Rouen in France. He later continued his studies at Galatasaray University in Istanbul, where he completed a second Master’s degree in International Law and the Turkish-law degree equivalency process.

This academic background enables him to identify the differences between legal terminology, procedural expectations and legal reasoning in France and Turkey. It is particularly relevant in matters involving foreign judgments, international families, assets located in different countries and commercial relationships involving Turkish and foreign parties.

How we work

Clear communication

Clients receive explanations in a language they understand. The purpose is not merely to translate a legal term, but to explain its practical effect, the available options and the next steps.

A defined scope

At the beginning of an instruction, we seek to identify:

  • the client’s objective;
  • the relevant facts and documents;
  • any applicable deadline;
  • the authorities or courts that may be involved;
  • the work that falls within the agreed scope;
  • any external costs or professional assistance that may be required.

Legal proceedings and administrative decisions cannot be guaranteed. We therefore distinguish between what can be controlled through preparation and what remains dependent on a court, authority, counterparty or other third party.

Cross-border coordination

Foreign documents may require translation, authentication or other formalities before they can be used in Turkey. The precise requirements depend on the issuing country, the type of document and the Turkish authority before which it will be submitted.

Where necessary, Blay’s Office can work with foreign counsel and other professionals to organise the documentation and maintain a consistent legal approach across jurisdictions.

Areas of practice

Blay’s Office advises both private clients and businesses. The availability and scope of assistance depend on the facts of each matter.

Detailed information on these services is available through the relevant practice-area pages.

Working with clients outside Turkey

Many matters can begin while the client is abroad. Initial consultations, document reviews and preparatory work can generally be organised remotely.

Whether the entire matter can be handled without the client travelling to Turkey depends on the procedure concerned. Some steps may be completed through a properly issued power of attorney, while others may require the client’s personal presence or additional formalities.

We assess this at the beginning of the matter and explain which steps can realistically be completed remotely.
